During lockdown I played a serious game of tag in the house with the boys (they are really getting fast! Or I’m getting old…) and I tripped over the baby gate. I flew through the air and got a massive bruise on my right thigh. It made a big hard lump, which is aparantly known as a hematoma.
The next day it looked horrific, but I started applying Cypress and dōTERRA Immortelle blend that contains a mix of Rose, Hawaiian Sandalwood, Myrrh, Frankincense, and Helichrysum essential oils. I continued doing this every morning and every night. The first two days I felt frustrated because I didn’t see any major difference. But I kept applying the oils every day, morning and night. After about 5 days I could see some improvement. By day 9, there was barely any sign of a bruise!
What I realised again from this experience is how we have become so impatient, especially when it comes to our health. We crave instant gratification in our hurried lives and there is just no time for feeling pain, or letting our bodies recover from an illness or injury. We eagerly grab for the quick-fix solutions and seldom care about the possible side-effects or long term consequences that many modern medications may have on our bodies.
Let’s take painkillers for example: isn’t it crazy that taking the same pill can relieve your headache, and alleviate pain in your foot, arm or tooth? We cannot control which parts of our body painkillers will affect, and like most modern medications, it treats the symptom, not the cause of the pain.
Our bodies have amazing self-healing abilities, but there are certain things we can do to assist and even fast-track its recovery process. Besides living a healthy lifestyle, essential oils can work to support the body’s own healing system, and when used correctly, may be able to take the place of conventional over-the-counter remedies. The key, however, is being patient and giving your body time to rest and heal.
What are you doing to help your body heal itself?
